Until this point, I had been sailing along on a kind of zen-like acceptance of the excessive snow, excessive wind, and excessive cold. I had even started to embrace it, what with the snow day. I had developed a kind of mantra to protect me:
I am a child of the North! I am unfazed by your extreme weather! My Midwestern practicality, love of carbohydrates and layers of clothing will sustain me until Spring!
But today...today was it. Somewhere between my watering eyes, my burning cheeks and fingers, the 7th delay on the train, scraping off the inside of my windshield and my toes starting to freeze inside my wool-lined boots.....I lost it. And I could see that everyone had lost it. No more patience, no more acceptance, no more Mr. Nice Chicago.
So go away, Winter. It's been a nice visit. We enjoyed the free day off of work, and the white Christmas was lovely, but that's enough for this year.
